Homemade Mozzarella Sticks

Gotta love string cheese!

ingredients

  • 6 string cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 TBS water
  • 1 cup bread crumbs (Panko is the best)
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 1 tsp. basil
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 2 TBS cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 cups vegetable oil

directions

  1. Unwrap the string cheese and cut in half.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the eggs and water.
  3. In a second small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, garlic salt, oregano, and basil.
  4. In a third small bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, and salt.
  5. In a saucepan, heat oil to about 375 degrees.
  6. Dip the halved mozzarella sticks in the egg mixture, then the flour mixture, then BACK into the egg mixture, and finally in the breadcrumb mixture.
  7. Repeat until all the string cheese is battered.
  8. Place cheese in hot oil and fry until golden brown on all sides.
  9. Remove with tongs and place on paper towel to drain.
  10. Dip in marinara sauce.
